Project Overview

About the project

RBE is a secure and efficient User Management System for managing accounts, roles, and access permissions. It features user registration, profile management, role-based access control, activity tracking, and secure authentication with multi-factor support — ensuring safe and streamlined user oversight for businesses.

RBE was built as the account layer behind a group of business systems that each had logins of their own. The goal was one place to create a user, decide what they can reach, and prove afterwards what they did.

Key Features

What RBE does

The features at the heart of the web application, as built and delivered by our team.

  • User Registration

    User registration for managing accounts.

  • Profile Management

    Profile management for user accounts.

  • Role-Based Access Control

Role-based access control to manage roles and access permissions.

  • Activity Tracking

Activity tracking for safe and streamlined user oversight.

  • Multi-Factor Authentication

    Secure authentication with multi-factor support.

The Challenges

What we had to solve

  1. Permissions without a maze Rights are granted to roles rather than to people, so an account is changed by moving it between roles instead of ticking dozens of boxes.
  2. A second factor without lock-outs Multi-factor sign-in had to be enforced while still leaving a recorded, reviewed way back in for somebody who loses their device.
  3. An audit trail worth having Sign-ins, permission changes and profile edits are written to an append-only log that can be exported for a review.
  4. Turning access off at once Deactivating an account ends its live sessions as well as its password, so access stops the moment it is withdrawn.
Technology

Technologies we used

    React, Material UI

  • Backend

    Laravel

  • Database

    MySQL

  • Integrations

Two-factor authentication, single sign-on, audit log export
